A tradition that the University of Utrecht holds dear is their academic ceremonies at the iconic Domkerk. Specifically, the opening of the academic year and the Dies Natalis, the anniversary of the university. During the corona crisis it became clear that meeting each other in real life is not always possible. But how then can a university talk about important themes, discuss pressing matters and hand out awards? Sharing knowledge and having open discussions is a pilar of the academic world. Tingly to the online and offline rescue!
When looking at past events we concluded that the content as well as the form should be modernized. The quality and creativity needed a boost without making any concessions in these academic traditions. But that meant changes should be set in motion. We proposed something that would mean the improvement of two things: the online media and the bi-yearly event itself.
Together with the university we created a playful script and added some creative touches to the event. We also agreed on us documenting everything, livestreaming it and taking care of the audiovisual tasks during the event. We produced several videos to stream and to be put online for other purposes. A quality event combined with modern videos in a fresh jacket.
